It's a new Dawn, It's a new Day, It's a new Life for Me...

...And i'm feeling good!

Ola chickens!

What's the word? This morning i woke up with extra gingers and a spring in my step, i have no idea why but i'm running with it :-)

Today we get a whole bunch of newbies in the office, more minions - muuuuuuuuuuhahaha. Nah shame, they all look a little overwhelmed and lost in translation. It reminds me of my first day of formal employment, 3 weeks fresh out of varsity... i think i wore the wrong outfit, sat in someone else's chair and basically wondered how people a) woke up so early everyday and did this gig for 8 hours a day. Fast forward four years on and i am still wondering how people, myself included, wake up so early everyday and do this gig, lol.

The Land of Oz: Over the weekend i caught Baz Luhrmann's epic story, "Australia" and was quite impressed with all three long hours of it. Nicole Kidman does well as leading lady in this epic romantic drama's and Hugh Jackman is *phwoar* brilliant playing the broody alpha male commitment phobe.

The true star of the show though is the little Aborigine boy who should be winning something for his role. The Australian outback looks quite majestic and the movie doesn't shy away from the injustices the Aborigine's suffered at the hands of the Australian Governement. All in all, go and check it out if you haven't already seen it.

Great Expectations: I am a bit sad to see Bush, mostly (read: only) 'cause who else will keep us entertained with such insipid statements and comments. Sadly that and the mess he's made of everything will be the legacy he leaves behind, and sadly, the mess that Obama spend his entire term trying to clean up.

Obama has his work cut out for him, to say the least. I just fear that there's been too much hype around him and that expectations have been set super-duper high.

He has literally become some Clark Kent comic superhero figure! The world just needs to cut him some slack and let him get on with doing as much damage control as it is humanely possible, or we're ultimately setting him up to fail, putting him up on pedestals and what-not.

That said, i WISH i was in DC for the Inaugaration tomorrow, from the reports i'm getting from that side, it just sounds crazy and so exciting! Sadly, i shall have to witness history in the making from someone's TV set :-S

Enjoy the rest of your Monday's and be good!

I remember my first day at work, lets just say whatever i wore that day was burnt to ashes- i couldn't leave any evidence.
I will be sure to watch Nicole and Hugh, watched 7 pounds and wasn't impressed. they certainly don't make movies the way they used to.

On Obama, well thats what he signed up for? You don't suddenly wear a Batman suit- then go about your everyday business as if you're not a super hero. I do hope he saves Gotham, coz like Bill Mires says if he is good at it, people will start noticing and just think maybe Black folk are pretty good at this.

That might certainly help my cause when i start my new job (Yes i too have a spring in my step).

You couldn't leave any evidence, what the heck were you doing musikana?

But the preview for 7 pounds looked so good, right then, i will late for the bootlegged version to get to me, can't be parting with R30 for lacklustre shows.

He signed up for the job but he's getting rated on a completely different scale to Bush was. Being a black man doesn't help him either.

He needs to do a lot, rightly so, but putting him on so high a pedestal that he constantly gets nosebleeds isn't very helpful either. We all need to just take it one day at a time.

On the random: Am i the only chick who doesn't find Obama HAWT, i mean, he isn't ugly and is very attractive in a reassuring, i've-got-your-back kinda way...but brazenly hot, i don't think so! He's husbandly hot in my books.

Oh my bad, i called you musikana instead of mukomana,am so used to Shona being the first one to write in the comment box, my bad!

the evidence would have been incriminating...if you know what i mean ah what the heck let me tell you. i wore an oversized cream jacket - by Savile row (Zim label) with grey pleated trousers (10 pleats) by Barons, a white oversized shirt, my tie knot was hanging by my chest, and i had a yellow tie (bright) to complete the ensemble.

As for Obama, well thats what it took for him to be elected president, the ability to raise people's expectations.
its not a hard job being president :-). In truth people simply expect him to be honest, and cut the Bullshit. (e.g we expect more than a page summary of why the tax payer should cough up $800bn bailing out some people and not others)lets watch and learn

As for your random thought, i will not answer. As far as i am concerned i am the only handsome man out there, every one else looks pretty ordinary.

I agree with Shona, we demand a forum page.

First days of work and school should be treated with a certain air of nonchalance otherwise the fear will stop you from going...lol

My first day at work in one of my first office jobs ever (have had a few since then..lol)was crazy, I walked in with my friend who is as white as a lily and this guy goes by and says "hey its ebony and ivory"...speechless till this day

As for Obama I fear the hype will be proportional to the backlash if he does not the right amount of people.... but then again George Bush showed us that you don't have to be popular to be re-elected...
Speaking of Bush I'm going to miss his vocab...for example yesterday he was asked how history would remember him and he said "I feel I have been un-misrepresented"...please...please

As for no T.V Vimbai...hmmmm homie I feel your pain....I once owned a T.V where the reception improved depending on where you sat in the room...its best to wait to buy a nice new T.V when you can afford it than buy a budget item....LOL

LOL @ Ebony & Ivory...lol...lol..
Since my first comment disappeared on this page *sad look on my face* I have to repeat it...
My first ever day in the office was FUN!Fresh out of uni, I started at this firm to find two friends from uni were also working there..gosh we made our mark that day and by the end of the week every1 knew the 3 female recruits...sigh...good times, good fun!
My man Barack did say that he mightn't reach all his goals in his first term but hell he'll try!!I'll be @ home watching my familia and buddies, have soul food on the menu for us all!!Come on Tuesday..YES WE CAN AND WE DID!!!THE THEME FOR 2009!!

Lol@K's tv, sha, I had such a tv too wena, which wouldnt work if i was standing next to it, moved around n all...lol

ShonaVixen said...

@Superstar - Dang dude...and the fashion police let you go to work?Barons or no Barons, dude that's just not on...LOL..Sure hope its better now..lol

Vimbai said...

Forum page, eish, that would probably be blocked at work, so y'all stuck with my blog! I am more than happy for you guys to talk away on it, it makes my day :-)

Shona:So Michelle's man, Barack, may have just bitten off more than he can chew, but you know what, it's not like Bush did any good saka "B" (Barack to the rest of you) has an easy place to start from!

Super: Bra, that outfit, NO NO NO! In my head it all comes together like some ensemble worn by a member of Color Me Badd! LOL. I pray, you are more GQ these days, you must be if you're busy proclaiming how good lookin' you are. We want EVIDENCE :-)

K: Heee, that ebony and ivory comment was so not PC, but hilarious either way, hahaha.

Bush's stupid comments will be missed, its actually quite sad that's he only real legacy from serving 2 terms...that and war (his CV sucks).

No budget TV for me, my sights are set high, probably TOO high! One day sha, one day...

V & Shona my ensemble was a consequence of the period, the rolling 90's. We didn't even have the fashion police then. And yes my sartorial exploits have improved significantly (as a result of living in Milan and Paris)and you know i dress just to make sure if i bump into Dylan (Mr Jones- GQ editor to y'all)i will not be too embarrassed.

As for the evidence...well just trust a brotha now....

k:"First days of work and school should be treated with a certain air of nonchalance" i will remember that good advice.

Vimbai said...

Hehehe, if it was the 90's then you are forgiven...i guess!

I love the not so subtle country-dropping there, hanzi Milan and Paris, hahaha, my bad!

I know my name is Vimbai*, but trust isn't so high on my list of virtues...i need me a picture to deduce this foiness mate!

* Vimbai means Trust in Shona, just for those who don't know.

ShonaVixen said...

Hmmm SuperStar! 90's or not that's just wrong..LOL...At least you don't wear that anymore BUT I do hope you still have some OB colour and suits in your wardrobe and Duchamp shirts!!
And like Vimbai, trust don't come easy so dude you just might have to prove your foiness and style..

@ Vimbayi, he could just send us a pic from the GQ website or something ..LOL...tichavharwa pano..lol..

Super star! said...

Shona- don't act lyk you have always been on point (sartorially) - fashion in Zim in the 90's was simply a disaster...and since you are from Chinhoyi (a small town i.e not even a city)i can only imagine what you were wearing- Georgette etc. (Jojeti- Zim speak.)

As for Ozwald love his work esp his shirts- but he is so-o 3 seasons ago. (the length of his jackets are highly suspect) Tom Ford is rocking men's wear these days. As for Duchamp all i can say is that you have spent too much time in London.

There is more to men's fashion than savile row tailoring.

V: As for Milan and Paris, i always say never trust a man who has lived in less than 3 cities (Blues to Hre doesn't count)

As for evidence judging from Shona's misgivings- if the proof proves too good it will be dismissed as forgery. So we are in a quandary.

K said...

Erm...superstar..."well just trust a brotha now" ...why does that sentence not seem right somehow.....trust and brotha in the same sentence *K scratching head and looking quizzically up in the air...LOL...I kid I kid...

We (Vimbai, Shona and myself) demand one picture to prove it...I will even waver my gift of Bata shoes in replacement of said picture. If its anonymity you are trying to keep...thats what cropping photo's are there for...shop the head off we only want the rest anyway...LOL

K said...

EEEEEhhhh Shona...hanzi your man Boateng is 3 seasons ago...superstar I don't think you know what you have started with that comment... madam has a well blogged love affair with those shirts especially those shirts on men... besides nothing in fashion these days can be left in the season they came out in because after awhile if its good quality its referred to as vintage and is now more expensive and more elusive to buy than the in season things....

Pheeem...iwe shona why am I even defending your shirts mehn....dhemmit...come quickly apparently you are being schooled... LOL

Super star! said...

K: you are too funny....didn't know brotha and trust were mutually exclusive. C'mon now you can trust me.....i'm different lol

As for Mr Boateng i had no idea we have a die hard fan in the house. I ain't hating just stating.Ozwald is simply not vintage yet, in my mind vintage is Armani, Ralph and if its SR tailors then Richard James would be vintage. Just compare OB vs TF and i'm sure you will testify jes how solid TF is.

ShonaVixen said...

@K thanx girl for having ur girl's back I totally appreciate that and as you said the statement '3 seasons' ago now doesn't work no more and esp wiv the play wiv color that Ozwald plays with!! I guess Superstar! just doesnt have OB in his closet and feels he should attack my boy...lol...
its ok Superstar! if you aint got OB/Duchamp...we just aint buying your self-proclaimed 'daper' and suave-ness till you prove us wrong..lol..

ShonaVixen said...

and ehe kani I was 'schooled' on fashion when I only said then he should have those 2 in his closet not the rest of his stuff, ndapuhwa a whole lesson nhasi on stuff i actually know - as i work for a Fashion Mag.(and not the lil unknown ones..lol...I'm not the only who could name-drop..lol)...gosh I do love OB!!!..LOL..

ShonaVixen said...

@ Superstar! Err i said I was BORN in Chinhoyi...and little town doesn't mean wearing fashion disasters!Embrace your fashion faux-pas alone my friend!
Dude...asi you on the short side??.lol..mentioning the length of his jackets??..coz for the tall guys 6'3 or more it suits them well!!

Super star! said...

Shona: OB is good and i did profess, but TF is better- my opinion i guess. You might have the thrills of writting about this but i have the experience of wearing the clothes and exchanging notes with fellow sartorialists. lol

which mag to you write for?

Super star! said...

i'm not 6'3 but OB's suit jackets i longer than most- his signiture style -thats a bit controvesial and not palatable to my tastes.

Are you saying you have never had your disaster years???

K said...

Personally ka, I feel somewhat shortchanged saka iwewe superstar you wear nice labels, offer decent girls like Vimbai, Shona and myself xmas pressies then balk @ the mention of jimmy shoes and the like....

I ask for a recall of that convo because then I thought shame poor typical man no idea of fashion but if you can wear style then you can buy it...saka lets talk business...LOL

Temite said...

hmmmmm I feel you. I am soooo nervous for him. I am actually petrified. Poor Man has his work cut out for him and its not funny.

Vimbai said...

Shona: Bra, you are repping for Chinhoyi mate! You gave super a bit of a tongue lashing there, hehehe. And i am so jealous, my dream is to work and eventually be editor of some fancy-schmancy fashion mag! Answer me this, do you get freebies from photo shoots and the like?

Super Star: OB...TF...you guys do know i have NO idea who the heck y'all talking about, must be an Enggie thing?

Super, you are a rare one, ie, being a man of your word. Ladies, i am happy to report that i was provided pics that reinforce Super's protests that he is indeed a style brotha. Shamwari, you've got the style and colour coordination down pat, i applaud you :-)

K: You still harping on about your Jimmy Choos, bravo for tenacity, clearly your approach here is to wear Super down with your demands, i like :-)

Temite: Welcome hun and for real Obama aint gonna have it easy for the next few years, all that stress...just as well, black don't crack!

ShonaVixen said...

Super Star! - Well, thank you for the pics which I have also forwarded to K, yeah I saw the Duchamp Store Logo and was that the OB section in Selfridges??..LOL...Lemme agree and say Ok you have style BUT now that I've seen this proof WTH is up with you offering me Avon products?Nah dude, like Kooks I want us to start that convo all over again!!!

Vimbai said...

Moral of the story here, don't offer nothing to women unless you are fully prepared to deliver the goods, hehehe.

Super star! said...

Shona: nah that ain't OB in selfridges its the actual store on SR, i do have a bespoke and Oz did the measurements- one of the highlights of my life!

Ladies: i believe i do heed the moral of the story. i innocently listened to Shona's depressing story about being in an all girls environment and how she was loathing V day. i thot shame i'm sure a card will cheer her up but lo and behold she turns and says she wants an iPhone.
