Dreaming 'bout Darcy

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Mr Darcy is uber sexy!

Those who know me well know about my rather unwavering devotion to Mr Darcy (I can see my sister’s eyes rolling into the back of her head with that “here we go again’ expression).

If you don’t know who Mr Darcy is then I suggest you pick up a copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, if reading proves difficult for the MTV-generation then get your hands on a copy of the BBC Prime version of Pride & Prejudice*…bear in mind its 4hrs long, but well worth it.

Let me share a few reasons why I can’t stop crushing on Mr Darcy (if you have not read the book and plan on doing so, then don’t read on – i may giveaway some of the plot;

1. He’s one of those men that commands interest wherever he goes;

"[Mr Darcy]soon drew the attention of the room by his fine, tall person, handsome features, noble mien; and the report which was in general circulation within five minutes after his entrance, of his having ten thousand a year.”

2. He’s the strong, silent type and is rather unapologetic about it;

"I certainly have not the talent which some possess... of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I often see done"

3. Although he initially describes Elizabeth Bennett as being, tolerable, I suppose, but not handsome enough to tempt me.” He eventually eats his words when he begins to fall for her and isn’t shy in letting people know that he finds her attractive and he had made a mistake , “I've been meditating on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman can bestow"

4. He’s a man who doesn’t shy away from admitting his feelings, even if he doesn’t really get it right the first time;

"I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you... I had to see you. I have fought against my better judgment, my family's expectations, the inferiority of your birth by rank and circumstance. All these things I am willing to put aside and ask you to end my agony."

5. Even when Elizabeth refuses him, and basically disses/spurns him, he still goes out of his way to help Elizabeth and her family look for her sister Lydia, who has eloped with a rather unsavoury character. He eventually tells Elizabeth, in one of the most romantic passages in the book, that he only helped out because he was still in love with her;

“You must know... surely, you must know it was all for you…If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love... I love... I love you. “

Okay, there are many more reasons I love Mr Darcy that I have left out, but at this rate I am seriously going to start paraphrasing the whole book!
Pick up a copy and find out why he has been voted the most popular male literary character by women everywhere!

*Do NOT watch the Bollywood version “Bride & Prejudice” or the other version with Kiera Knightly and her incessant pouting – bloody ridiculous.

When it rains.....

I've officially come out of a 3-day slump, its true what they say about bad things...they come in three's and seven's. I think the heavens had a little pity on me, coz i was dealt the "3's "card.

When in a funk i ordinarily do not like to wallow...wallowing was never encouraged when i was a child, and for good reason too, sulking and "hitting an Eeyore*", self-gratifying as it is, never actually improves the situation. However, in serious circumstances (and this one was serious) i give myself 72hrs in the woe-is-me realm and that's it.

Note to self: Don't listen to manic depressive -inducing music when in the doldrums, it will only aggravate the situation. The likes of Lifehouse, The Cranberries, and all wrist-slitting music should be avoided like the plague.

On a good note, i'm feeling much better and am glad to rejoin the land of the living. Ms Scott's "Golden" is my theme song for the week & should ward off all inclinations to want to crawl back into bed and curl up in a ball, lol;

I'm taking my own freedom
Putting it in my song,
Singing loud and strong,
Grooving all day long,
I'm taking my freedom,
Putting it in my stroll,
I'll be high-steppin' y'all,
Letting the joy unfold,

I'm livin' my life like it's golden
Livin' my life like it's golden, [X3]
Livin' my life like it's golden, golden,
Livin' my life like it's golden, [X4]
Livin' my life like it's golden, golden

* "Hitting an Eeyore*: Growing up, i used to get annoyed with all the characters from Winnie the Pooh, especially Eeyore! He was always complaining and depressed! If only someone would remove the drawing pin on his butt holding up his tail (that couldn't have been comfortable) and tell him that thistles are NOT a recommended dietary requirement, he would be a happier ass!

Over familiarity...

when not warranted, breeds contempt!!!!

I’m in a hissy - pissy mood, so bear with me while I vent!

1. If I’ve known you for less than a second please DO NOT…I repeat, DO NOT feel free to abbreviate my name.

2. If I don’t know you please take heed of the “personal space” rule that states that you must keep at least 3 feet away from me at all possible times…if I can smell you or feel intimate bits of your anatomy then we’ve got a serious problem.

3. &*^%ing use your indicator/blinkers, I’m not a &^$%ing mind reader.

4. If the water jug is empty, fill it up…don’t put it back into the fridge *grrrr*

5. If I lend you something, return it to me in a timely fashion…not like many moons later when I have to borrow it back just to get my ish back.

6. And my major pet peeve is best summarised in Missy Elliot’s song, “This is for my people” ; C

Can't stand when a DJ fuckin up the song

Know I'm tryna to shake my ass all night long

Cuttin up the same shit all night long

High 'fore I got there, now my shit is blown

*sigh* I’m feeling better now I got that out of the way!

On the random: To all y’all superstitious types, hope your Friday 13th day goes by uneventfully!

Have a great weekend people!

4-Day Weekend Recap

"When the sun is setting in the sky,

Everybody knows it's party time!" Gloria Estafan

Pure, unadulterated, hedonistic fun was the theme for the 4-day weekend. The true sentiment behind the weekend was not totally lost on me tho, i did reflect on "forgiveness and reconcilation", 2 major themes always present at this time of the year. However, when the sun went down, that was another story! The level of joy that was undertaken was reminiscent of December holidays!

I would love to post pictures and give you details surrounding all the revelry, but i was strongly advised not to do so...lol.

Getting back to work is painful.....just plain awful :-(

Happy Easter

HAPPY EASTER!!!

This is the first Easter weekend i've had no travel plans
in almost a decade. I find myself twiddling my thumbs trying
to figure out "what is the plan?". I do have one mission though,
and that is to eat a lovely chocolate Easter egg! I've scoffed
a least a dozen hot cross buns, but the chocolate bunny has
escaped my attentions...but i
will rectify that *i say gleefully rubbing my hands together*
Have a Happy & Safe Easter Holiday!

The Invitation

The Invitation
Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon…
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.
