Tag...i'm it!

I've been tagged by Smudgie3, these are the rules;

Each player of this game starts out by giving six weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own six weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose six people to be tagged and list their names. After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog!

One: Seeing the colours purple and yellow next to eachother makes me very, very nauseous!

It makes watching Lakers games very tricky!!

Two: Scrapper

Magazines + Scissors + Glue + Scrapbook = Utter bliss for me!

Three: Borderline Narcorleptic

I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, literally, any time, any place.

Four: A mystic in the making

I dream about things and they generally happen. I can dream about someone i havent seen in years and boom....i'll see them the next day. Now if only this gift could translate into coming up with Lottery numbers and Wentworth Miller's whereabouts!!!

Five: Great memory

Birthdays, songs, general trivia...i remember it all, whether i want to or not.

Six: Allergies

You name it, i'm probably allergic to it :-(

Okay, my turn....I tag:

Rites of Passage

Every weekend throngs of women undertake the weekly pilgrimage to the hair dressing salon. I was no exception, although rather reluctant at first, I made my appearance. My reluctance had more to do with the thought of sitting under a 40°C hairdryer in + 35°C weather than actually getting my hair done. Very few things on this green earth can beat the wonderful feeling of getting your hair washed and the scalp massage that follows. Just thinking about it makes me want to purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Some male readers may be reading this and thinking, “Big deal, you go and get your hair done…what’s the fuss”. The thing about the trip to the hair salon is that it’s a cultural experience steeped in tradition and history. Girls are indoctrinated into such activities by their mothers at a very tender age. It’s a place where women meet and socialise, it’s a sanctuary that provides a haven from the buzz and bustle of everyday life…it’s a place “where everybody knows your name.”

"I think the most important thing a woman can have - next to talent, of course - is her hairdresser." Joan Crawford

Lupini For President!

I made a lovely discovery at Sydney’s Surprise Birthday bash on Saturday. I was introduced to the lovely, to the luscious….Lupini, a liquorice flavoured alcoholic beverage.

It was Lust at first sip, I can’t really say what it was…the golden flecks in the bottle, the smooth combination Wadzi put together, the general mood of the nite? Whatever it was…I was hooked either way.

Now how am I gonna explain this to my ever-faithful Gin & Tonic, mmmmh.

Definition: crave ( /kre…™v/) –verb (used with object)

1. to long for; want greatly; desire eagerly:

2. to require; need: a problem craving prompt attention.

My problem that requires prompt attention
is my intense craving for
Smoked Salmon.

I don't know what the heck i am deficient in
(and no, i do not have a bun in the oven - just in case your mind works like a certain friend of mine's)
but all i can think of is consuming a plate of
thin smoked salmon strips
that have had lime juice liberally squeezed over them.

This craving usually attacks me once every three months
without fail. Utter madness!
On a good note, It's the weekend...YAY!
Have a fabulous weekend Beautiful People.

Beware the Ides of March

Now i'm not a superstitious gal, but there's something about this day that doesn't bode well!

Well after dear Caesar was taken down by his cronies my Form Four dance fell on this day. Needless to say it was a disaster, or rather my over-hyped dance date was a disaster!

Hopefully i will get through the day unscathed and this mornings near-encounter with the Garbage truck was the brunt of it.

PS Happy Birthday Bianca!

Temptation Island

"The trouble with resisting temptation is it may never come your way again. ~Korman's Law"

So its been like 2 or so weeks of vigilant fasting, not on my part really, but on the part of a couple of people I know. One particular friend deserves an honourable mention for going Vegan and sticking to it, she represents a small percentage of individuals at large who can avoid temptation at all costs…sadly I belong to the majority, the people who rely on the exit clause, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

“Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell. “ ~Anonymous

The use of the word “evil” conjures all sorts of dramatic things eg murder, infidelity, theft blah blah blah. When in actual fact, it’s the little “evils” that when counted up pack a pretty little punch! Take, for example, my usual daily resolutions to 1) Oh and wake up when my alarm clocks rings the first time round, and not 4 snooze bells later 2) Think kind thoughts about everyone who comes my way that day, 3) Avoid consuming cholesterol-inducing foods. Five minutes into the new day I would have broken the first resolution (no doubt), the drive in early morning traffic usually takes care of the second one, only to get to work and find out its another person’s birthday, meaning cake for everyone….which is resolution number three done away with.

"Most people want to be delivered from temptation but would like it to keep in touch. "~Robert Orben

It so much easier to avoid yielding to the bigger more serious forms of temptation, but gosh darn it, it’s those little ones that I find a little harder to resist. I could argue that I’m more susceptible to such weaknesses given Eve’s antics in a certain garden, but that would be a rather sad cop-out. The sobering reality is that I’m sadly lacking in the self-discipline department…boo!

"Nothing makes it easier to resist temptation than a proper bringing-up, a sound set of values - and witnesses." ~Franklin P. Jones

Today's Poet: Vikram Seth

All You Who Sleep Tonight

All you who sleep tonight
Far from the ones you love,
No hand to left or right
And emptiness above -

Know that you aren't alone
The whole world shares your tears,
Some for two nights or one,
And some for all their years.

Sit, drink your coffee here; your work can wait awhile.
You're twenty-six, and still have some life ahead.
No need for wit; just talk vacuities, and I'll
Reciprocate in kind, or laugh at you instead.

The world is too opaque, distressing and profound.
This twenty minutes' rendezvous will make my day:
To sit here in the sun, with grackles all around,
Staring with beady eyes, and you two feet away.

Somewhere within your loving look I sense,
Without the least intention to deceive,
Without suspicion, without evidence,
Somewhere within your heart the heart to leave.

In Memory of Gordon

Gone though you have, I heard your voice today.
I tried to make out what the words might mean,
Like something seen half-clearly on a screen:
Each savoured reference, each laughing bark,
Sage comment, bad pun, indiscreet remark.
Gone since you have, grief too in time will go,
Or share space with old joy; it must be so.
Rest then in peace, but spare us some elation.
Death cannot put down every conversation.
Over and out, as you once used to say?
Not on your life. You're on this line to stay

Some men like Jack and some like Jill
I'm glad I like them both but still
I wonder if this freewheeling
Really is an enlightened thing,
Or is its greater scope a sign
Of deviance from some party line?
In the strict ranks of Gay and Straight
What is my status: Stray? Or Great?

I will be easy company; the blur
Of what I longed for once will fade to space.
No thought that could discomfort you will stir.
My eyes will painlessly survey your face.

Prandial Plaint

My love, I love your breasts, I love your nose.
I love your accent and I love your toes.
I am your slave. One word, and I obey.
But please don't slurp your morning brew that way.

Hush now!

Voices in my head,
Chanting, ‘Kisses. Bread.
Prove yourself. Fight. Shove.
Learn. Earn. Look for love.’

Drown a lesser voice,
Silent now of choice;
‘Breathe in peace, and be
Still, for once, like me.’

Vikram Seth

It’s harder than ever to filter out The World and find some peace and quiet as our every action, our every sense is bombarded by the thoughts and views of those around us. We are like those caught in a storm desperately seeking the eye of the storm. It is not surprising then to find that because we absorb this constant barrage from family, friends, peers, the media, our views and thoughts are gradually drowned out.

As Lebo rightly said in her blog, sometimes we just need to take a timeout and Be Still. It’s so tempting to fill the quiet with meaningless chatter or unnecessary activity. However, it’s only in stillness that we then get to hear our own true voice, hear our own true thoughts;

‘Breathe in peace, and be
Still, for once, like me.”

Have a great weekend.
