Where are all the Good People?

Jack Johnson is a lyrical genius! His songs reflect his Hawaiian roots with wit soft crooning, reflective content all which is backed up by melodic strumming on his guitar – Divine! I got his CD, “In between Dreams” over the weekend and particularly like his one song, “Good People” where he basically asks what has happened to all the good people. If TV shows, in particular reality shows, are an indication of society then we are heading for trouble!

I find myself watching reality shows with a mixture of morbid curiosity (like slowing down to see a car crash) and disgust…more disgust coz the overall premise of such shows is to pit people against each other and revel in the baser qualities that are revealed! Honestly, we need more shows like “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” that do way more good than some stupid show like “Who wants to be a Hilton?’ that moulds contestants into the very people we could do without!

I will leave you with some wise words from good ole Jack!

How many train wrecks do we need to see?
Before we lose touch of…
We thought this was low
It's bad gettin worse so

[Chorus]
Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow
